Yun-Wei Yu is a professor in astrophysics in College of Physical Science and Technology in Central China Normal University (CCNU).  Prof Yu’s research interest is in a broad range of topics of neutron stars, gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave events and their electromagnetic counterparts, super-luminous supernovae, fast radio bursts, etc. So far he has published totally about 40 peer-reviewed research papers. Most papers are focused on the important role of a newborn neutron star in driving or powering different stellar explosion phenomena. In particular, very recently, Prof Yu has carefully investigated the crucial effects of a post-merger massive neutron star on the optical-infrared counterpart emissions of the double neutron star merger gravitational wave event GW 170817.
Prof Yu got his BSc and PhD degrees from CCNU in the years of 2004 and 2009, respectively. His PhD thesis entitled “Gamma-ray bursts and their afterglows: A multi-wavelength study in the Swift era” was awarded in 2011 to the Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations in China. In 2009, he became a teacher in CCNU. From 2006 to 2009, Prof Yu studied on gamma-ray bursts in Nanjing University (NJU) as a visiting PhD student. From 2009 to 2011, he worked in the Department of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) as a post-doctoral fellow. In 2014 and 2015, he visited twice the Institute of Advanced Science in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as a visiting scholar.
Because of his research achievements, Prof Yu has been funded continuously since 2011 by the National Natural Science Foundation of China including Youth Project, General Project, and Outstanding Youth Project, by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University by the Ministry of Education of China, and partially by the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program),.
