The Theoretical Physics in the Institution of Particle Physics (IOPP) of CCNU is a well-known and highly respected discipline with a relative long history, and mainly focuses on the theoretical and experimental research of medium and high energy nuclear physics, the research of heavy flavor physics and new physics beyond Standard Model, complexity science and dynamics system. It has been awarded the “Theoretical Physics“ National Key Discipline (2007), “Material Deep Structural Physics” National "211 project" Key construction discipline, Quark and Lepton Physics Key Laboratory (2007) by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China, High Energy Nuclear Physics National Innovation Research Group (2012, 2015) by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), "Quark Matter Physics" -111 Center of Introducing Talents ( in the first period of 2008-2012, in the second period of 2013-2017), "Doctorate of national level physics discipline authorization center" (2007), "Physical Post-doctoral Mobile Station (1994)," Quark Matter International Joint Research Center of Hubei Province (2014), the "International Cooperation Center of FAIR" established in Central China Normal University jointly with Heavy Ion National Laboratory of Germany (2014), and national "International Joint Research Center of Quark Matter and Detection Technology " (2015).
Faculty members in The Theoretical Physics include 2 professors with 1000-talents program, 1 distinguished professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program, two winners of awards from National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 4 professors with the support of Young 1000-latents program, 2 winners of Excellent Youth Talents sponsored by National Science Foundation, and 8 winners of awards from New Century Talents Support Program by MOE, 8 Humboldt Fellows by Humboldt Foundation in Germany, 4 winners of “ChuTian Scholars Program” in Hubei Province, and one winner of National Hundred Outstanding Doctoral dissertation Program.
IOPP has close communication and collaboration with international research centers. We participate in the experimental research with CERN -SPS (Europe) , BNL-AGS (USA) and DUBNA - JINR (Russia) . IOPP is the earliest institution participating in STAR international cooperation group at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) . It is the leading institution of China on international group of ALICE which at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) established in CERN, Geneva and CBM international cooperation group of Facility of Antiprotons and Ion (FAIR) in Germany. It Is also an associate member of LHCb international partners. Cooperation agreements have been signed with CERN, BNL, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL), GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, and Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
In the last 6 years, IOPP has over 100 doctoral candidates and more than 140 graduate students, who have published more than 400 papers including 2 papers published in the international famous academic journal Science, and one for Nature, over 40 papers published in top academic journals such as Physical Review Letters. More than 120 international visits by graduate students in IOPP have been made. And IOPP has got financial funding of over than 90 million Yuan from national and provincial research funding agencies.
